Weekly Spotlights
Our Scholarship Spotlight highlights the story behind the award—whether it honors a legacy, supports a specific field of study, or uplifts a particular community. By featuring a different scholarship each week, we aim to show the depth and diversity of opportunities available to our students.
Our Scholar Spotlight celebrates the individuals who make Central Scholarship proud—resilient, passionate, and purpose-driven students who are making the most of their education. These scholars represent a wide range of backgrounds and dreams, and their journeys inspire us all.
Follow along weekly as we share the stories that define our mission: opening doors to higher education and empowering the next generation of changemakers.
Our featured scholar this week is Ryan Johnson, recipient the Blanche and Merrill Uhlfelder Fund Scholarship!
Ryan graduated from Benjamin Franklin Highschool in 2025 with a 4.0 GPA, and has consistently kept his finger on the pulse of his community. As a student, he served as the Student Government Association President and designated school photographer. He decided to continue this passion by pursuing a photography degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art, where he hopes to utilize photojournalism as a career in pursuit of promoting justice and equality in his community.
The Blanche and Merrill Uhlfelder Fund Scholarship is one of many scholarships offered by Central Scholarship to help close the tuition gap of students and ensure that they are able to pursue their educational goals. To learn more about this scholarship, please visit our Scholarship Directory.
