Meyerhoff Scholar, Zach Klipstein (pictured above), helped build “Watershed” — a 100% green home — in the US Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon this year. The Decathlon is a yearly competition held in Washington DC. Zach is a graduate student at the University of Maryland School of Architecture and has received scholarships from Central Scholarship for several years. And (drum roll please)… UMD won the competition!
Purdue University took second place in the competition, and New Zealand (Victoria University of Wellington) received the third-place award. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency.
Congrats, Zach!
