Central Scholarship’s general application is closed as of April 1st, but the Shoe City scholarship application remains open through April 30th. Central Scholarships awards several students with a Shoe City Scholarship every year. Students must be graduating high school seniors from Baltimore City, Prince George’s County or Washington, D.C. Eligible applicants should have been accepted to and planning to attend college full-time in the Fall of 2015.
Rashanique Reese received a Shoe City Scholarship in previous years. She studies Environmental Science and Policy at UMBC. Rashanique volunteered for the Maryland Zoo in high school where she was given the opportunity to work outdoors and work with animals. The zoo taught Rashanique how to educate people about animals, nature, and conservation, and inspired her to pursue environmental causes. She strengthened her passion for the environment when she had an opportunity to speak with the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C. Following graduation, she plans to use her bachelor of science in environmental science with a minor in environmental policy and biology to travel abroad helping other countries. She also hopes to work in the U.S. to help clean up the coast, and eventually move into politics to help the government implement green ideas.
