Thirty-three year-old Zaketa Lightfoot was valedictorian of her class at the It Works Learning Center in 2011. Now a graduate of the CNA/GNA (Certified Nursing Assistant/Geriatric Nursing Assistant) training program, Zaketa is looking forward to employment. Central Scholarship awarded Zaketa with a Career and Technology Scholarship which allowed her to afford classes at the It Works Learning Center. For 14 years, the It Works Learning Center has trained and placed thousands of graduates in jobs in and around Baltimore. It Works is licensed by and in good standing with the Maryland Higher Education Commission and the Maryland Board of Nursing.
Central Scholarship has been offering Career and Technology Scholarships for students since 2008 and we continue to help more and more students with each year. Just this month, we announced a $350,000 grant awarded to us by the Abell Foundation that will enable us to help over one hundred Baltimore City students attain career and technology training. Unlike our college scholarship application, we accept applications for career and vocational training scholarships on a rolling basis throughout the year.
